a song of summer

I have never figured out how it happens... after years of trying... I blink my eye once in June and when I open them it's the end of September.  Nearly 3 months have passed since I last wrote of life here at 1010 Rosebud.  Nearly 3 months of giggles, tears, milestones, and thrown stones.    Wasn't it only yesterday that Bella was bouncing high on Uncle Adam and Aunt Laura's trampoline?  Somehow when she landed she was back in preschool and months away from carefree summer evenings.  Time flies in the blink of an eye.  And though it was never my intention to allow such a long lapse in writing about our lives, I must say that at least part of my absence was somewhat intentional.  It occurred to me somewhere along the way that it was possible that my writing about my four little loves may actually be getting in the way of me actually being with them.  My desire to capture every nuance of their lives became another "have to" that sapped at least some of the joy of just watching.  Just listening.  Just being.  

on duty

I would like to to submit Tuesday, June 26 as my first official day of summer vacation - and as such my first official day on 100% mom duty.  Though my last day of work was Friday the 22nd, I spent Saturday and Sunday rushing around feeling like I had other school work to do.  By the end of the day on Monday I was able to mentally b-slap myself into believing that it was, in fact Summer!  It was here, and I was missing it because I felt the need to work ahead on a lesson plan or make a to do list!  And this is how Tuesday became the first day of summer vacation.  The first day that I woke up without a to do list.

Is it summer yet?

As soon as Memorial Day weekend comes students, teachers, and mommies from coast to coast are bitten by the summer bug.  The three day holiday is like a sweet promise of things to come - warm weather, lazy days, suntan lotion, bare feet... For kiddos and those fortunate enough to enter the teaching profession, summer seems to promise an endless holiday - a much needed break from the onslaught of stress that we deal with day in and out.  The world turns into my beach and every day seems brighter than the next.

Hello my friends... I hope that you are all having a super marvelous Memorial Day Weekend.  It's always one of my favorite weekends of the year - filled with joy and hope, the excitement of summer and more hamburgers than you can shake a fist at.
