Today was one of those days where I could feel my school work piling up and creating a constant weight on my shoulders... as soon as dinner was over I found my mind drifting back to the office and the unanswered emails, the files that had to be downloaded before the two day inservice, the to do lists to post, the study guides to get ready, the bags to pack...
Tony was scrambling to clean the kitchen, I tried to straighten the family room, Tony went to tap the tub water, I went to grab pajamas... then back down to collect the kids. It was strangely quiet. And devoid of foot traffic. I checked all the rooms, then the bathroom - panicked and checked the garage and the basement.
Then I heard the giggle...
Then another...
Then riotous laughter.
Here were the four kids- under the dining room table, laying on pillows, covered in blankets, draped all over each other grinning from ear to ear. How adorable is that?!? They were definitely in cahoots... they were trying to hide, and in a few years I’ll worry about that, but this just made me grab my camera and climb under for a moment to capture it - but their moment was quickly ruined. An adult in the kids club house, boss in the staff room, magic gone. I had a temporary feeling of an outsider mixed with the much bigger feeling of joy at this spontaneous playtime. I grabbed some pretty great smiles before we had to usher everyone up for tubs and I had to get back to work.
