Concentration

It's an amazing phenomenon.  When my children are removed from their siblings, all of their crazy ADHD like tendencies seem to vanish.  I am always in awe when I witness one of my babies deeply entranced in some activity of their choosing {especially if that activity doesn't involve playing in the potty}...

I find myself drawn to them and sooner or later I sneak up on them, like I was some sort of safari clad nature photographer... super quiet ... all stealthy like... flash off... no sound or movement to break whatever spell they are under.  Often I end up cursing myself because breaking the spell is exactly what I do - like some evil witch - But somedays, like today, I actually capture something that I hope helps us all remember the quite times a bit more accurately in the future.

Just look at those pouty lips, his brows furrowed in concentration, those sturdy legs tucked underneath him providing a perfect desk for his afternoon reading.  Don't you just love how perfect their posture is at this age?  How straight they sit without the benefit of Yoga or Pilates... He was here for 15 minutes, but his legs didn't fall asleep.  In fact when Alex finally finished carefully turning the pages, he bounded up and thundered across the room to the table where I was finishing some school work, threw back the chair and climbed up to sit directly infront of me.  On the table.  And casually sipped my water while maintaining excellent eye contact.

The whole period of blissful quiet concentration lasted about 17 minutes from start to end.  17 years or even days from now will he remember this at all?  Definitely not.  Will I?  Boy, I hope so.
